Dual credit programs provide the opportunity for high school students to participate in apprenticeship training or college courses earning both high school and post-secondary credits for the same course.
Students in dual credit programs are able to engage in learning experiences that lead to successful transitions to college and/or the workforce.
Health Care Aide
The Province of Alberta is looking to immediately increase the number of health care aides employed in home care, continuing care, community care and acute care settings.
École Secondaire Notre Dame High School and Red Deer College are partnering to deliver the Alberta Health Care Aide provincial curriculum, which provides graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the rewarding field of health care.
The program is delivered through a combination of instructor-led classroom study, instructor-facilitated labs and 200 hours of clinical practicum experience. Students will learn to put theory into practice by attending scheduled labs and workshops held at Red Deer College and a practicum done throughout facilities in Red Deer.
Students will receive both high school CTS credits and college level credits while they are enrolled and working through the program. Students who begin the program in grade 10 will convocate from Red Deer College while they are still in high school.
Other Dual Credit Programs
Projected to start fall 2014, this will be a three year program that will require oil industry partners to accept students working towards their 4th Class Power Engineering ticket. Students who enroll in the program will take online NAIT/SAIT courses during the school year and then participate in summer onsite employment opportunity working towards 940 hours for required apprenticeship training.
Auto Body Service Technician
SWAC- School within a College, where a small group of students will study the Auto Body Service Technician program and have the opportunity to take all of their classes for a full year at Red Deer College.
