We have some new faces on our Board of Trustees after the municipal election on October 16, 2017. Meet our new Trustees:
Bowden, Didsbury, Innisfail and Olds
I have been a member of the Innisfail community since 1998 with my husband Jason and three daughters Emma, Claire and Ella. It has been a wonderful journey watching Catholic education grow and become an integral part of both the Innisfail and Olds communities. Olds holds a near and dear place in my heart as I grew up in the community. My parents still call Olds home and I am proud to now come back and represent the community as a Trustee.
I ran as a Trustee because I believe in and support faith-based education. As a parent, I have been watching and supporting my children as they have grown and flourished in the Catholic school system. I myself have developed as a parent and member of the community and feel I can represent the needs of the students, parents, school and community as a Trustee.
I hope to be a positive voice and representative for the Innisfail/Olds area and be a collaborative member of the Red Deer Catholic Regional School Division. The next four years will be a time of growth and change in the Division and I look forward to my new role as Trustee.
Red Deer and area
Born and raised in Red Deer, I attended Maryview School, St. Thomas Aquinas Middle School, and École Secondaire Notre Dame High School. I have always felt a strong connection to my faith and community at St. Mary’s Parish. I’ve been a member of the Parish Council, Knights of Columbus and served many years as a Eucharistic Minister. Also, I am Senior QA/QC Inspector for Jacobs at DOW Prentiss.
After much prayer and discernment, I followed the call to run as a Catholic School Trustee. I have been honoured to serve in this capacity for the last term, and am seeking a second term to continue the work that our Board has undertaken. I have enjoyed this valuable work, and promise to continue to serve the families of Red Deer Catholic with passion and dedication.
With our continued growth in the Division, we are experiencing serious space constraints within our schools. Our classrooms continue to see ever increasing diverse student needs. I believe we need the proper supports in these classrooms for our students, teachers, and staff. I believe that we need to ensure that our Catholic schools are not taken for granted, and that they continue to serve all those who choose to come through our doors. I will continue to fight for fully funded Catholic schools in our province.

I have been happily married to my husband Darren for 33 years and we have seven children and three grandchildren. We farm east of Red Deer and manage the trucking of a larger hog farm cooperative. I graduated with an honours diploma in Rehabilitative Studies and worked at Michener Services.
I have been a Trustee with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools for 10 years, serving in various capacities including three years as chair of the board. I am the current President of the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association (ACSTA) and the Vice-President of the Canadian Catholic School Trustees’ Association (CCSTA).
I believe in servant leadership and have spent my life giving back to the community. I continue to feel called to the vocation of trusteeship. Called by God, I hope to serve by positively contributing to Catholic education locally and beyond.
I would like to see further discussion/advocacy occur in the areas of child mental health/wellness, funding for our most vulnerable students, capital expenditures to alleviate space issues in our Division and improved consultation regarding the new curriculum being developed provincially. I feel it is a great privilege to be elected as a school board trustee. I am committed to honouring that trust with dedicated service and a lot of hard work!
Red Deer and area
I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. I graduated from Centro Escolar University with an undergraduate degree in Mass Communication. I am married for 32 grateful years and have a grown son who lives in Calgary.
I immigrated to Canada with my 14-month-old son and mother. I have called Red Deer my home since 1988. I have been a government employee for almost 29 years.
I am an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and involved in various ministries. I am an Adult Server, Eucharistic Minister, CWL, member of Arts and Environment and for nearly 20 years, I have been Coordinator for Junior Altar Server. Also, I previously served as the chairperson of Union of Catholic Apostolate and secretary of the Liturgy Committee.
I seek to serve the community as a whole. As a Filipino-Canadian, I have a unique opportunity to reach out to a growing group deeply involved in the Catholic community whom not have been engaged with in previous years. I also recognize that as each child deserves representation, as well as a secure and welcoming community that accepts diversity.
I will support and promote Catholic education. I stand for what I believe in. Catholic education is here for many great reasons. We will bring Christ in the heart of every child. We will uphold the best interest for our students and teachers. I will have a strong voice, and if I am elected as Trustee, I am ready and committed to service.
Caroline, Eckville, Rocky Mountain House and Sylvan Lake
My husband Brad and I have been married for 34 years. Rocky Mountain House has been our home the entire time. We have two grown daughters that had the benefit of attending Catholic schools in our community from Kindergarten through Grade12. During the course of these 17 years, I was an active member of parent council at both St. Matthew Catholic School and St. Dominic Catholic High School. As well, I was employed for 24 years with Wild Rose Public Schools, followed by over six years in the private sector. I have been retired for over three years.
St. Matthew Parish is an important part of my life. My strong belief in faith-based education has helped me and my family become who we are today. Over the years, we have been involved in multiple ministries at our Parish. I have been a greeter, money counter, reader, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, CWL president and leader of children’s liturgy. Also, my husband and I have taught Baptism Preparation for young couples.
Community involvement is vital to the success of our Division. With a passion and commitment to Catholic education, I welcome the opportunity to learn and grow as a school trustee. Through the combination of my years of applicable experience and strong faith, I am equipped with the potential to contribute to Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. I believe that I have a vocational calling to give back to a system I trust in. There is a long-standing tradition of public Catholic education in Alberta and I strive to support its future growth and success.
I am eager to meet and listen to any concerns that arise in our school communities. I sincerely look forward to collaborating with staff, students, and parents.
Red Deer and area
I was born and raised in rural Alberta. After graduating from a small school in a class of 19 students, I went on to earn three university degrees and have made a living working in business and education, running my own small businesses and teaching as a college instructor. After Patricia and I were married at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton, I launched the Entrepreneurial Centre in Lethbridge before returning to establish our home here in Red Deer. Our children Brett and Kate, graduates of our Catholic schools and members of Sacred Heart Parish, are attending university at UBC.
Over the last 15 years, I have focused my work as a social justice advocate on charities and community organizations that are important to me. I have chaired and served on the boards of: our Catholic Education Foundation, Hospice, Community Legal Clinic, Community Foundation, School Council, Community Capital, RD Boxing Club, CAPRA-Poverty Reduction Alliance, Lifelong Learning Council, RDC Management Council, Public Legal Education Association of Canada, Canadian Centre for Court Technology, and Food for Friends Society. Currently, I am working on a major project involving Safe Harbour and Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter.
Catholic education is important and families are choosing our Catholic schools. Our Division funding has grown to $100 million dollars. There are some that would like to see our Catholic school division eliminated.
As your trustee, I will preserve and strengthen Catholic education, ensure that teachers and schools are properly resourced to deliver the highest standard of education, and ensure that all budget decisions are made in the best interests of your children. I have long advocated for the elimination of school fees. As your trustee, under your guidance, I will work to create a system where all the best our schools have to offer are accessible to all, at no cost to children and their families.
