How Exercise or Physical Activity Can Help Reduce and Relieve Stress & Anxiety

  1. When you are physically active there is a chemical produced /released in our bodies called endorphins. This chemical is your natural pain reliever. Endorphins are the feel good neurotransmitters in your body that gives you what some people call a “runners high”
  2. Exercise benefits so many parts of your body including your cardiovascular system, digestive system, immune system etc… These positive effects help your body manage the damaging effects stress can have on your body.
  3. Another reason exercise can help reduce and relieve stress and anxiety is the fact that it is a great distraction from whatever is weighing on your mind.
  4. Not only is exercise good for your overall health, it helps you to have a sense of well being. This sense of well-being can give you a boost in confidence which can help in so many ways of your life…including your relationships not only with others but your relationship with yourself and how you treat yourself.

So next time you feel stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, sad, get moving. If you are short on time go for a quick walk or do some stretching. It doesn’t always have to be a full on gym session.
