Literacy and Numeracy

St. Elizabeth Seton School students reading together

Literacy and numeracy is the foundation of the Alberta Education's curriculum and is much more than just the ability to read.

It is about developing thinking skills that enable students to comprehend, analyze, make judgments, synthesize, and express themselves accurately and expressively in all contexts.

Literacy and numeracy is the foundation for our students to make sense of the world and develop their own perspectives.

Our Division is committed to supporting the diverse literacy and numeracy learning needs of all students. Trends in student achievement indicate a need to provide increased resources and support to classroom teachers at all grades to reflect that all teachers need to be teachers of literacy and numeracy.
