Public Education Rally - Letter of Support

Dear Red Deer Catholic teachers,

At the September Board meeting, the ATA Local #80 President and Vice-President shared a presentation with the Board of Trustees regarding the future of public education in Alberta. Their concerns centered on the erosion of education funding, inclusion, and class sizes. They also shared information about the upcoming Alberta-wide Rally for Public Education that many teachers from RDCRS will be attending. The ATA President invited the Board of Trustees to support RDCRS teachers at this rally.

Based on Policy 2, Board Role Description, the Board acts as an advocate for public Catholic Education and the needs of the Division. The Board works with staff, parents, community members, school council members, and other elected bodies to advocate for continued improvements to the quality of Catholic educational opportunities provided to our students.

In alignment with that Policy, the Board of Trustees will continue to advocate for improvements to public Catholic education by formally supporting our teachers at the upcoming Rally for Public Education on October 22, 2022. Thank you for all you do each and every day, and thank you for reminding the government and the public of the vital importance of public education.
