Happy Retirement, Dan Cormier!
Dan Cormier graduated from Laval University in Quebec City in 1991 with B. Sc. in Physical education.
His career started at Ecole Plamondon School. He then moved to Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools, Vegreville’s St Mary's High School (Elk Island Catholic Schools), and in St Albert before joining Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools. At RDCRS, Dan spent time at Holy Family School, Monfort Centre and École Camille J. Lerouge School.
He taught all levels, including K-12 phys ed, social studies 6 to 9, religion, health, and cts construction
His greatest joy was running the athletic program as athletic director at Camille. In this role, he was responsible for organizing big events, including cross country, volleyball/basketball tournaments and of course all the track and field for RDCMSAA.
He was nominated for the 2002-2003 Prime Minister’s Awards for Teaching Excellence with the IOP Program and in 2019 received the health and phys ed HPEC award.
Dan’s best trait is he was always positive, solution-driven and believed in getting it done!
Dan was involved in the community with many social justice projects with our students: tools for schools in Red Deer, many many shoes boxes for Ukraine, pond hockey build the rink and bleachers and renovated dressing rooms at Kinsmen hall, Red Deer Food Bank, building dog houses for Saving Grace Animal Rescue and SPCA, Habitat for Humanity, and our continuous Guatemala project.
He and his wife Lisa have three awesome kids:
- Josh, a teacher
- Sarah, a rec therapist/gerontology
- Isabelle, who recently finished her third year at University of Alberta also in education with phys ed in mind.
Dan loves every sport as there are different techniques and strategies to all of them. His biggest love is hockey - he is a big Montreal Canadiens fan. He also admits to cheering for the Edmonton Oilers too, as his wife, Lisa, is from Edmonton.
In his spare time, Dan finds there is always a project to build. However, you also need some time to go camping and enjoy the outdoors
He looks forward to traveling more, going fishing, working on this other sport called golf and spending time with his new grandchild.
Congratulations on your retirement, Dan!
